THE HARMFUL EFFECTS OF ANTIFA

An historic opportunity is being missed. The disastrous 2016 presidential election could and should have been a wakeup call. A corrupt political system that gave voters a choice between two terrible candidates is not democracy.
This should have been the signal to face reality. The US political system is totally rotten, contemptuous of the people, serving the corporations and lobbies that pay to keep them in office. The time had come to organize a genuine alternative, an independent movement to liberate the electoral system from the grip of billionaires, to demand a transition from a war economy to an economy dedicated to improving the lives of the people who live here. What is needed is a movement for the pacification of America, at home and abroad.
That is a big order. Yet this approach could meet with wide support, especially if vigorous young people organized to stimulate popular debate, between real live people, from door to door if necessary, creating a mass movement for genuine democracy, equality, and peace. This is as revolutionary a program as possible in the present circumstances. A moribund left should be coming back to life to take the lead in building such a movement.
Quite the opposite is happening.

TRUMPDOM: The Curious World of Trump’s Foreign Policy Explained

It is barely seven weeks since Donald Trump became the 45th President of the United States. Perhaps too early to figure out the details of America’s foreign policy during his presidency. However, some broad contours of his policies are taking shape, which may provide pointers to what he is likely to do in the next four years.
These pointers are based partly on what Trump said during his election campaign and partly on what has happened since he became President. Actually, quite a lot has happened in the last seven weeks or so, including considerable turbulence in US domestic and foreign policy.
Before proceeding further, it may be useful to recall that Trump’s victory in the Nov. 2016 elections was unexpected. Most opinion polls and the mainstream media (MSM) predicted victory for Hillary Clinton, who was the candidate of the US Establishment and the ‘Deep State’ (DS), which includes the military-industrial complex, the intelligence agencies, the MSM, Wall Street, and the Jewish Lobby.
The DS is a permanent, unelected, group of institutions, lobbies, and individuals which wields enormous power from behind the scenes and continues to do so irrespective of who is the President and which party controls the US Congress. It is driven by the quest for money and power, among other things.
The present DS began taking shape almost thirty-five years ago when Jimmy Carter was President. There was a DS before that too, going back to the 1950s, which came into existence after the Second World War. However, it was much less powerful and entrenched than the present one. John F. Kennedy tried to defy it but did not succeed. Some believe he paid for it with his life.

‘Completely Unsustainable’: Obamacare Destroys Middle Class, Rising As Much as 67%. Just in 2017.

Minnesota is in good company.
Like dozens of other states across the country, its government-mandated health care exchange is facing steeply-rising premiums for individual plans at levels that are both outrageous and completely impossible for the average Middle Class family to pay or keep up with.
And as future rates continue to rise – and it’s going to hurt a lot of people.
Because the system was designed to fail; or, because the government and health care lobbies have so little regard for the people that will actually have to live and die by their rules, the prices are skyrocketing by more than 50% in Minnesota – and by similarly absurd numbers in other states – and the exchange narrowly avoiding collapsing altogether in 2017.
via the Daily Caller:
Minnesota will let health insurers increase their rates by at least 50 percent next year to protect the state’s Obamacare health insurance individual market from ‘collapse,’ the state announced Friday.

Anything Trumps Hillary

It’s all over except the shouting. That is, the primary election season effectively ended last night and now the actual shouting match between Hillary and The Donald begins.
This will surely be the most entertaining election in US history, and probably the most pointless, too. After all, Hillary wants to use government to make Government Great Again. And Trump promises to use government to make America Great Again.
But government doesn’t make anything great, including itself. It is a necessary evil that always and everywhere is driven toward self-aggrandizement and mission creep by the politicians and special interest lobbies which control its operations.
What government actually does is thwart the capacity of the people to pursue their own vision of greatness by encumbering their economic lives with burdensome taxation, regulation, roadblocks to opportunity and monetary fraud while saddling their public lives with endless Nanny State impositions and encroachments upon their personal liberty.

It’s Us – Not Politicians Or Rich People – Who Create Jobs And Drive Economy

When business lobbies warn that voting left would lead to a period of political instability that would hurt the economy, it’s easy to understand cynicism from left-wing parties. Someone should remind business lobbies, corporations and banks that it was the people at the commanding heights of banks and business who ruined the economy last time.
David McWilliams, a respected economist and commentator, has written an interesting article ahead of the election in Ireland where he points out the importance of normal everyday people and businesses and indeed of ‘animal spirits’ and psychology:
Politicians should understand that they do not create jobs; nor do rich people. Jobs are created by general demand. Rich people don’t create demand. You and I create demand. Demand is what happens when the society has enough income to buy goods and services.

Now Among Largest Firearms Investors, Soros in Gun Control Scheme to Dump Stocks: ‘I’m Very Much Against Guns’

Do you see the puppet strings?
The plot to disarm Americans and suspend the 2nd Amendment is working with furious pace. But it is anything but head on.
The 2nd Amendment makes gun ownership an inalienable right and guarantees armed and formidable populace. The NRA and other lobbies have gun rights firmly entrenched in the Republican party.
So the other side works the back door. Infiltration, sabotage and other dirty tricks.
Is that what is happening?
By all appearances, Soros, the elite wolf in sheep’s clothing has been investing in firearms companies not to profit from them, but to destroy them, and destroy the access of people to guns and ammunition.

OPEC is at risk of falling apart

OPEC has been the most talked about international organization among investors, analysts and international political lobbies in the last few months.
When OPEC speaks, the world listens in rapt attention as it accounts for nearly 40 % of the world’s total crude output.
With its headquarters in Vienna, Austria, one of the mandates of 12-member OPEC is to "ensure the stabilization of oil markets in order to secure an efficient, economic and regular supply of petroleum to consumers, a steady income to producers, and a fair return on capital for those investing in the petroleum industry."

Memo To WSJ: The CRomnibus Abomination Was Not ‘A Rare Bipartisan Success’

The rank economic cheerleading in the guise of ‘news’ printed by the Wall Street Journal, Reuters and the rest of the financial press never ceases to amaze. But on the heels of Congress’ pathetic capitulation to Wall Street over the weekend you have to wonder if even the robo-writers who compose the headlines are on the take.
How could anyone in the right mind label this weekend’s CRomnibus abomination ‘A Rare Bipartisan Success for Congress’? Apparently, that unaccountable plaudit was bestowed upon Washington by the WSJ solely because it avoided another government shutdown.
And one that was of its own making at that. After all, we are already 75 days into the new fiscal year, yet Congress had not yet passed a single appropriations bill. So once again it had set itself up for the usual midnight scramble behind closed doors where the pork barrel overflows and sundry K-street lobbies stick-up the joint and then demand immediate passage – – sight unseen – – in the name of keeping the Washington Monument open on the morrow.
Not only did Citigroup and the rest of the big Wall Street banks succeed in gutting the ‘push-out’ requirements of Dodd-Frank, thereby extending their lease to gamble in the derivatives market with FDIC (i.e. taxpayer) guaranteed money. Crony Capitalism also got a huge bonanza in the form of a 10X increase in the contribution limit to party committees. Now the heavy hitters can actually give $230,000 annually to the GOP and Dem campaign committees. And this is supposed to merit praise?
Yes, this game has been going on for years. But the fact that the nation’s leading financial newspaper was witless enough to describe it as a ‘success’ is something comparatively new. What has happened is that the deafening clamor from the Wall Street casino for endless winnings has subordinated all else. Even a brief government shutdown is now verboten – – -not because it would have any deleterious effect in the real world where virtually 80% of domestic operations are exempted under the ‘health and safety’ clause, anyway. No, the purported danger is that it might prompt a panicked sell-off in the stock market.

“How The Media Controls Britain”

We have yet to read Owen Jones’ “The Establishment… And how they get away with it“, although Russell Brand’s take of the author has certainly piqued our interest: ”Owen Jones may have the face of a baby and the voice of George Formby but he is our generation’s Orwell and we must cherish him.” We do know, however, that the young author and Guardian columnist is one of those who are not afraid to think critically while accepting there is far more than meets the eye, and certainly than the controlled media would like revealed. To wit, from the book’s official blurb:
Behind our democracy lurks a powerful but unaccountable network of people who wield massive power and reap huge profits in the process. In exposing this shadowy and complex system that dominates our lives, Owen Jones sets out on a journey into the heart of our Establishment, from the lobbies of Westminster to the newsrooms, boardrooms and trading rooms of Fleet Street and the City. Exposing the revolving doors that link these worlds, and the vested interests that bind them together, Jones shows how, in claiming to work on our behalf, the people at the top are doing precisely the opposite. In fact, they represent the biggest threat to our democracy today – and it is time they were challenged.

One Way Wall Street Is Fleecing Investors

No Country for Old Men We are sitting in the lobby of the China World Hotel in Beijing. It is a very large space and very unlike most hotels. Monday, we stopped into the lobby of the Marriott Opera Ambassador Hotel on Boulevard Haussmann in Paris. Like most lobbies, it was quiet, with just a few people having coffee.
Here, there are hundreds of people – almost all young. I am the oldest person, a fossil from another continent and another time. The young people are dressed casually but well. They sit in groups talking… as though planning their next marketing campaign.
There is scarcely anyone over the age of 40. We have started a small publishing business in China. It, too, is staffed by people in their twenties. What happened to the old people? Maybe they have not been able to keep up with the breathtaking changes in China. This is no country for old men…
‘Everyone has great confidence in the future,’ says a Chinese colleague. ‘Things have gotten so much better over the last 20 years. And we expect that to continue.
‘Our new president, Xi Jinping, is serious about trying to get rid of corruption, even at the highest levels. He is trying to deregulate whole industries. Regulations and licenses were just a way for officials to demand bribes and payoffs. So, Xi wants to get rid of a lot of this so we can do business more freely.’
Whether he will succeed or not, we can’t say. But at least it sounds promising.

Crony Congress

Did you know 47% of Congress members are millionaires?  And while in office they have all kinds of advantages to make them even richer while they’re in office:

  • Access to private information prior to key activities that make them money in the stock market
  • Earmarks placed in law codes to support their personal projects
  • Support for lobbies ensures they have cushy jobs after their “public service” is finished
